More about the demo from the artist:
I will paint for about 1 and 3/4 hours. The painting will be projected onto the big screen so that people can see. I will also bring some other finished paintings to display so that people can look at them before the demo starts.
My intention is to give an introduction to the use of palette knives used with oil to produce landscape paintings. The large size of the knife helps prevent me from becoming too detailed and allows a more impressionistic approach.
Hopefully in the two hours we will cover the preparatory steps I take for a studio painting, and how I premix colours in advance of painting as it allows freer, faster, unhindered painting in my making colour choices and mixes.
On the night I will arrive with most of my colours mixed due to time constraints.
I will explain in brief the use of the Notan sketch to form the bones or understucture of the painting.
I will describe the two main knives I use, and how and when I use them as I paint.
I will plan to paint a 30x40cm painting in the two hours on a gesso prepared mdf panel.
As I paint, I will describe how I am using the knives to produce the various textures, washes, overlays and marks. I will describe how layers of paint are built up to provide a depth of colour and texture.
I will try to answer any questions as I go and leave a little time at the end for final questions.
