Phil Madley is an Encaustic wax specialist. Phil delivers popular demonstrations due to his original techniques and his amusing, knowledgeable and enthusiastic delivery. His practice uses an iron, hot stylus and hot air gun to produce some quite amazing paintings. Phil has been involved in art all his working life, starting as a trainee Graphic Artist at the Road Transport Industry Training Board before becoming a Graphic Designer, then Art Director and finally a Creative Director in a sales promotion agency. Phil says, his raison d'etre is "Passion: This is not your bluebell woods - this is innovative, exciting and contemporary. It touches your soul; sometimes it is beautiful, sometimes a touch frightening, often you can see different images and feel different emotions - so many pictures in one."
Phil is a member of several Art Societies and Groups in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. He has been an artist in residence at Missenden Abbey and has taught residential Summer Schools there. He teaches regularly both privately from his studio and at schools and colleges. He exhibits widely and has sold over 600 paintings to date.
