Recently, an art critic described me as an English Realist or 21st Century impressionist artist. Flattering remarks! However, these words sum up what I like to achieve. I have a particularly profound love of nature and enjoy depicting the juxtaposition of darkness and light in whatever appears on the canvas; whether landscapes, portraits, or historical buildings.
My three framed paintings in this exhibition are all about the drama and colours that form nature. As an art critic I learn much from seeing other artists’ canvases, among them members of this society, of which I am Chairman. I have studied some of the great painters over many years and what I have learnt has helped me on my own journey within the wonderful world of art.
I have held two solo exhibitions in St Albans Cathedral and have also exhibited in St Paul’s Cathedral where one of my paintings of the Great West Front of the building was used as an Advent calendar, with 5,000 copies sold throughout the world.
I have now completed over 800 canvases and continue to spend time in my Watford Road studio, combining this with my art critiques of major exhibitions, in London galleries and elsewhere.
